Age can be difficult for women in our culture. But our beauty and power are not gone – in the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, they have merely stolen inward.
Our wisdom and power are more important now than ever, for our families, our communities, and our planet. More than ever, we need mature women’s wisdom. While younger women give birth to children, women of all ages are needed to help birth a better world.
Let’s take all we have been through, alchemizing what we’ve learned into a gift for those around us. Having experienced the wounds that are inflicted by a wounded world, we can, if we choose, become its healers.
Aging with grace and power is a journey that must be consciously undertaken. Only when we grieve what is no longer ours, can we receive the gifts inherent in who we are now.
Like a snake shedding its skin, we outgrow who we used to be in order to claim the power of a newly constituted sense of self. We do not have to adhere to society’s patriarchal prejudices. We’re not over the hill; we’re creating a new one.
Having been through so much, we are far from over. We are on the threshold of the Age of The Magnificent Crone.
